As summer ends.....

And Labor Day is upon us I would just like to dedicate this blog post to my mother, who with her adventurous spirit, Dutch stubbornness, and sure will asked at the age of 85 if we would take her kayaking.
We had just planned on taking her for a nice picnic at the park and had the kayaks on the truck and she kept saying are you taking me kayaking. At age eighty five I wasn't sure it was a good idea, turns out it was pretty much her last adventure as she was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in the following months So here is to my mother may her adventurous spirit live on in all of us..

Project Complete........

This has been a project of many firsts for me. First custom cake, first time using fondant, first time making a custom cake board. I'm not a professional baker not a professional decorator not a professional carpenter. I just enjoy the challenge and this project was special because it is for my sons eighteenth birthday so it meant a lot to be able to do this for him.
I must give a shout out to Bear Hollow Vintage Guitars, 345 Miracle Mile, Lebanon New Hampshire and the owner Neil for allowing me to use one of their guitars (in store) to make a template for my cake. Thanks Neil, you guys are awesome.

Took me some time to make the template, transfer and cut out the pattern for the cake board, dowel it so the cake could stand upright, cover the board for looks and wrap the lower portion with food grade plastic, so the cake wasn't sitting on the covering. The neck sat on cake board so it was okay as is. Then make two triple batches of batter, thirty eggs etc. bake, freeze, sculpt and then the fondant and coloring. It was a bit more of a challenge then I expected but I've never backed down from a challenge.good or bad. :) Overall for a first time I think it came out pretty well.

Mocha and his new friends......

Mocha made some new friends, A yellow lab named Matty and an old friend......Squirrel. Mocha sits beside the house, sometimes for an hour straight just staring up into our large oak waiting for his friend to come down so he can tag him. Mocha also gets lots of attention from passer bys, they just can't seem to go by without talking to him our petting him.

Thursdays Farmers Market Lebanon, NH

Thursday means Farmers Market day. A large crowd gathered today as there is live music on a few venues. Both four legged and two legged are enjoying the festivities. As always there are a lot of different vendors selling fruit, vegetables, jewelry, pottery, candies, jams and lots of other items. I like to go (because its across the street) and enjoy running into friends and making new friends. The food is great, American, Indian, Italian and other international foods are available. It is also a nice way to spend a cool evening after such a hot day.
